Selling directly

Any post can carry a price. When it does, a Buy Now bar appears on it, and the buyer pays you by card. Curiate does not hold the money: it goes straight to the payout account you connect.

Connect a payout account

Before anyone can buy from you, connect Square:

  1. Open Settings and choose Payouts.
  2. Under Square, tap Connect and sign in to your Square account, or create one. It must be a US dollar account.
  3. You are returned to Curiate with Square shown as connected.

If a buyer taps Buy Now before you have connected an account, they see a message that the seller is not set up for payments and cannot pay. Disconnect Square? on the same screen removes the connection.

Show sales are different. When a piece sells as part of a show, the buyer pays the curator's account, and the curator pays you your share afterwards. See Joining a show and Sales and payouts.

Set a price

Open your post, choose Edit price in the top-bar menu, and enter a direct sale price. Leave it empty to take the piece off direct sale. This price is for selling from your own profile; a show sets its own price for the same piece when you submit it.

What the buyer sees

The post shows a Buy Now bar with the price. Tapping it opens a Square checkout page in the browser, where the buyer enters card details and an email address. They do not need a Curiate account. When the payment goes through:

  • The piece is marked sold and the bar disappears.
  • The price lands in your Square balance, less Curiate's small platform fee and Square's card processing fee.
  • Square emails the buyer a receipt.
  • You get a sale notification in your inbox, and on iPhone a push notification.

Shipping or handing over the work is between you and the buyer. Square's receipt carries the buyer's email, and you can also see the payment in your Square dashboard.

Exclusive shows

If the piece is in a running show that is marked exclusive, it cannot be bought from your profile while the show is on. A buyer who tries sees Available in the show with a button that takes them to the show page.

Refunds

Refund from your Square dashboard. Curiate notices the refund and marks the sale refunded. The piece stays marked as sold; if you want to offer it again, set its price again yourself. See How the money works for what you keep on a sale.
