Joining a show

A curator invites you, you accept, you submit pieces at a show price, the curator approves them, and they go on sale under the show. This page follows that path from your side.

The invitation

Invitations arrive in your notifications inbox and under Settings → Show invites. If you received the invitation by email before you had an account, open its link, sign up with that same address, verify it, and the invitation will be in your inbox. Each card tells you the terms before you answer:

  • Your rate or Commission: the percentage of each sale the curator keeps. A rate can be set per artist, so yours may differ from the show's default.
  • Roles, if the curator has given you any: Co-curator, Juror or Show staff. See Running a show for what each can do.
  • Exclusive while the show runs, if set: an approved piece cannot be sold from your profile or shown in another active show until this one ends.

Tap Accept or Decline. The curator is notified either way. Fee and exclusivity are locked once the first artist accepts, so what you see on the card is what applies.

Submit a piece

  1. Open the show page and tap Submit a piece, or open one of your posts and choose Add to collection.
  2. Pick the piece.
  3. Enter the show price. A show price is required; it is separate from any direct sale price on the post.
  4. Tap Submit for review.

The piece now shows as Pending on the show page. While it is pending you can Withdraw it. Submitting a piece that is not yet cataloged is fine, but cataloging it first gives the curator a title, medium and dimensions for labels and exports. See The artwork catalog.

Review

The curator, or a co-curator, approves or rejects each submission. You get a notification with the outcome. An approved piece becomes available in the show and appears on the show page with its show price. If the show is exclusive, the piece is locked to it from that moment.

Some shows use a jury. Jurors score pieces and leave comments for the curator; the curator still makes the decision. In a blind review show, jurors do not see artist names.

When your piece sells

The buyer pays the curator's Square account, and Curiate records the split: the show's commission for the curator, a platform fee, and the rest owed to you. Card processing fees come out of the curator's side, not yours; see How the money works. You receive a sale notification. The curator sees a running "Owed to artists" total and marks each artist paid after settling with them, usually at the end of the show. Curiate does not move that money; the curator pays you however you agree.

If the piece is also priced on your profile, the profile sale is blocked for the length of an exclusive show.

Shows, collections and curations

A show is a collection with pricing and a curator fee switched on. A plain collection without pricing works the same way for invitations and submissions but has no sales. A curation is display-only: another user can feature one of your posts in their curation without an invitation, and the post keeps its own price. See How shows work.
