Questions and limits

Common questions

Do buyers need an account? No. Anyone can pay by card from a QR code or a link. See Buying art.

Does Curiate hold the money? No. Payments go through Square straight to the seller's account: the curator's for a show with a commission, the artist's for a direct sale or a zero-commission show. Curiate records the split and takes its platform fee from the payment. See How the money works.

Can I be in two shows at once? Yes, unless one of them is exclusive. An exclusive show locks its approved pieces until it ends. The lock is per artwork, so other pieces of yours are unaffected.

I run a show and take no cut. How should I set it up? Set the curator fee to 0%. Buyers then pay each artist's own Square account, and you have nothing to settle. Every artist needs to connect Square before the show opens.

The label says the wrong price. Labels are paper. Change the show price in the app and reprint the card. The QR code stays valid because it points at the piece, not the price.

Can I invite an artist who is not on Curiate? Yes. Enter their email address in the invite box, or import a spreadsheet from the show console. They get an email with a signup link, and the invitation is waiting once they sign up with that address.

Where is search? There is none yet. Find people through links, QR codes, or Discover.

Can I change a catalog number? No. Numbers are permanent so that printed cards stay true. Delete and reissue only if the piece was cataloged by mistake, and it will get a new number.

I have two usernames. Which one gets deleted by Delete account? Only the one that is active when you tap it.

Things people ask for that are on the list but not in the app:

  • Private notes and tags on artists, and a contacts list that spans shows.
  • Commission requests, collaboration requests and waitlists from a profile. Commission tiers are shown for information; contact the artist through their bio.
  • Text search.
  • A buyer's own view of what they have bought.
  • Printing straight to a Bluetooth label printer, and batch thermal printing for a show.
  • A button in the app for your RSS feed address.
  • Buying a plan in the app.
